On January 3, the first working day of 2023, the year’s first fuel price hike is expected to take effect at midnight: gasoline prices are forecast to rise by 250 yuan per ton, while diesel prices are expected to increase by 240 yuan per ton.
Since December 19, international oil prices have been trending upward overall. According to Longzhong Consulting, at 24:00 on January 3, the price caps for gasoline and diesel are expected to be raised by RMB 250 per ton for gasoline and RMB 240 per ton for diesel, translating into an increase of RMB 0.18 per liter for No. 92 gasoline, RMB 0.19 per liter for No. 95 gasoline, RMB 0.21 per liter for No. 95 gasoline, and RMB 0.20 per liter for No. 0 diesel.
This round marks the first price adjustment of 2023, with the next pricing window set to open at 24:00 on January 17, 2023. At present, Saudi Arabia and Russia have indicated their commitment to steadfastly implement production cuts, while localized demand in Asia is gradually recovering. Coupled with expectations that the Federal Reserve may further ease the pace of its January rate hike to 25 basis points, the likelihood of an upward adjustment in the next round of refined‑oil prices appears quite high.
